I suggest that in today’s society when considering ‘leadership’ with young people Scouting should always couple that with the need for leadership with ‘values’ – Integrity, Respect, Care, Belief, Cooperation. Leadership + values = Citizenship = Scouting But it’s got to be an ACTIVE part of our work wiht young people and not just talk.
The UK Scout Association has published a new Refugee Response Resource pack as guidance for UK Scouting on ways by which Scout Groups can welcome young refugees funded by The Eric Frank Trust. You can find it at scouts.org.uk/refugeeresponse. How appropriate is that given the Eric Frank himself was a refugee in the UK.
A comment on the Messengers of Peace website reads: Every Scout who runs a service project is a Messenger of Peace. Together we create a network of Messengers of Peace all over the world. How great is that in today’s troubled world.
